Question #1

Jewish lifestyle was ruled by religion. How is this similar or different from other civilizations that we've studied?

This is very similar to Islam due to to what are known as the 5 pillars of Islam. The 5 pillars of Islam include faith and belief in one God, praying 5 times a day, helping those less fortunate, fasting, and pilgrimage to Makkah. It seems to me like there whole lives were dedicated to religion.

A Jewish lifestyle is similar to an Islamic lifestyle because they are both very controlled by their religion. Jews and Muslims both strive to follow their God's orders, and they both have organized prayer routines.

Will- Nice comparison, but can you expand a little more on that? What jewish belief is similar to the islamic beliefs? How do the jewish beliefs influence the community in comparison to the islamic ones?

Kayla- Great answer. It's short and to the point. But can you support your point a bit more. What are the prayer routines - how are they similar or different? Why do they strive to follow God's orders - what's the challenge?

This is quite like Islam. Islam was very strict about it's religion and if you did not follow the religion or the rules you would be kicked out immediately. Islam also had the five pillars of faith which were the baseline of islamic belief and the torah had the ten commandments which was the baseline for the Jewish faith

Jack- Good answer. Nice comparison. However, you made a point in the belief of Islam and then talked about the base line of the two religions without showing a comparison. I'd just expand the answer a bit more. State how Jewish lifestyle was based on religion just like you stated how religion controlled the Islamic society. Good job otherwise.

judaism and islam both have their religion greatly integrated in their overall life style. islam has the 5 pillars of islam which says requirements like: fasting, pilgrimage, and praying 5 times a day. judaism has the torah, which basically has requirements, rules, and ways of beliefs. this shows how religion is a major factor on not just beliefs but also rules of their lifestyle.

Jews and Muslims both strive to follow their God's orders because God is their one leader. Jews and Muslims both have organized prayer routines. Jews go to temple every sabbath, and Muslims have to pray five times everyday.

Welles- Nice job! Great comparison, and you explained the points that you made.
Can you give an example of a jewish belief/rule/requirement and compare it to one of the islamic ones that you mentioned?
Other than that, your answer is great!

Kayla- Nice job. But, just because God is their one leader, does that automatically mean that his orders are hard to follow?

Kayla Bristol said...

I didn't say his orders are hard to follow.

Tabatha Yelós said...

Let me re-phrase that. Just because God is the one leader, does that mean that one has to strive to follow his orders? What about God presents a challenge for people to follow his orders? Leadership? Can't it be easy to follow your leader's orders?
(Strive- to make great efforts to achieve or obtain something)
